Erica Britt

Associate Teaching Professor

Dr. Britt completed her Ph.D. in Linguistics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2011. Dr. Britt is a sociolinguist and discourse analyst, and her work focuses on the use of African American Language in public and political life.

Her work has been published in a number of leading journals and scholarly volumes including Language in Society, The Journal of Linguistic Anthropology, and The Oxford Handbook of African American Language.

She has also developed an oral history project, the Vehicle City Voices Project, that explores the intersections of language, history, and everyday life in Flint, Michigan.
