Professor Boigues was born in Salamanca, Spain, and came to Emory in 1996. He studied linguistics and literature at the Universidad de Salamanca, receiving two licenciatura degrees in English and Spanish Philology, as well as a Certificate in Pedagogy. He completed his Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics (Second Language Acquisition) at UNED in Madrid, Spain. His main field of specialization is the application of digital media to foreign language and culture learning, an area in which he conducted a study on electronic communications, published in Innovación y gestión del talento (Ed. Domingo Gallego Gil and Catalina Alonso García. Caceres: EBS Business School, 2011). He participates regularly in conferences on technology and education in Spain and the US.

At Emory, Professor Boigues teaches mainly courses on Spanish linguistics. He has also served in several administrative positions; he was the Director and Coordinator of the semester study abroad programs in Salamanca from 2004 to 2008, the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Spanish Program from 2008 to 2016, and he has participated under several roles in the Summer Program in Spain (Seville and Salamanca). Currently he is the Coordinator of the Joint Major in Spanish & Linguistics, an interdisciplinary program approved in 2016.

Professor Boigues was the recipient of the ECLC Excellence in Teaching Award in 2007, and the Winship Award for Senior Lecturers in 2010.
